Plastpol is one of the largest exhibitions in Eastern Europe for the plastics industry and attracts leading companies from the plastics processing sector every year. It covers all aspects of the plastics value chain — from manufacturing and processing to recovery and recycling.

Poland has for many decades been the undisputed leader of the plastics processing industry in the Eastern European region. This extremely important sector of the Polish economy is ranked 3rd among industrial processing sectors in terms of gross value added generated and employs over 200,000 people. According to data from the Plastics Europe Foundation, the volume of local plastics production is estimated at 1.7 million tonnes including materials such as HDPE, LDPE, PA6, PET, PP, PS and PVC. The industry also comprises local compounders producing modified varieties of a wide range of plastics.

With such a powerful industry behind it, it is not surprising that the country also hosts the most important trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry in Easter Europe. For over a quarter of a century, trade fair organiser Targi Kielce has been inviting the industry to the town of Kielce — right between Warsaw and Kraków. The next edition of the international fair for injection moulding machines, extruders and granulates will take place from 23rd to 26th May-2023. This year, the organisers are expecting 910 exhibiting companies, with more than 50 percent coming from abroad.

The spectrum of products shown at the stands includes machinery and equipment, moulds and tools, as well as a wide range of plastics, plastic products, recycling technologies and IT solutions specifically for plastics manufacturing. Suppliers of packaging technology will also showcase their latest developments. The exhibitors from all over the world use the opportunity to introduce new products, meet potential customers and build business relationships. The economic potential of Plastpol has been recognised for years by both debutants and experienced players in the plastics industry.

For instance, in 2022, companies from Angola and Qatar decided that the fair would be an ideal place to expand the spheres of influence in Poland and Europe. The meetings turned out to be a success, and they already announced their presence at the 2023 edition.

Targi Kielce also hosts many companies and institutions from important economic centres in Europe. German, Austrian and Swiss companies have been meeting important customers, opened new markets and made key business contacts at Plastpol since its inception. Global players regularly present at the fair include Engel, Arburg, Krauss-Maiffei, Battenfeld-Wittmann, Erema, Meusburger and Evonik Industries. The country of Italy is also strongly represented by groups such as Moretto, Mepol, Confindustria Polonia or Ambra Polymers.

Plastpol has not only established itself as an important meeting place but also as a venue for acquiring specialist knowledge. From the start, the Kielce Plastpol Expo has been Central and Eastern Europe’s focal meeting point for business insiders, the dialogue platform for domestic and global companies active in the plastics processing sector. Exhibitions of similar prestige and magnitude are not held in the neighbouring countries in the east and south of Poland, the organisers claim.

The expo brings together representatives of all business sector groups — distributors, material producers and machines manufacturers as well as industry clients. Plastpol enjoys a prestigious stance, and this makes the expo front-page news not only in the industry publications but also in national and foreign media.

Plastpol is much more than machines and purchase opportunities. The expo offers a platform for meetings, seminars and training courses. It provides the chance to talk to other specialists and exchange professional experiences with experts from all corners of the world. This year continues the many-year tradition of seminars hosted by Plastech Info, which feature the latest developments in plastics processing technology. It will take place on the second day of the fair i.e. on 24th May 2023.

The presentations and speeches will focus on the topic of “Advanced Polymer Material — Technologies, Processing, Applications”. The thematic scope of the seminar will mostly deal with the role and importance of plastics in people's everyday life, as a material offering the possibility to develop and implement innovative solutions for the changing needs and challenges posed by society.

A much anticipated event will again be the annual press conference organised by the Plastics Europe Polska association. Traditionally, the association presents its report on the global plastics markets' development during the fair.

The Omniplast competition complements the expo’s accompanying programme. This competition is aimed to disseminate and spread knowledge of plastic processing and the related processing technologies.

The competition is divided into three stages. The first competition stage commenced on 1st February 2023 and continues until the 23rd of May. Having registered, each participant receives an email which contains a set of ten questions related to plastics processing technologies and the broadly defined plastics market in Poland and in Europe. The 31st of March is the deadline to provide the answers. The first classification phase will be based upon the submitted answers. The second phase of the contest will take place in the virtual world too; this stage begins on 1st April. A maximum of 30 participants will qualify for the second stage.

The finals of the competition will be held at Targi Kielce on the first day of the Targi Kielce expo. The three best participants will receive prizes with the total value of 12,000 Zloty (approx. 11,300 euros).
